The Vision
The Ground Pilates Teacher Training was created to offer a comprehensive, intelligent, and deeply detailed Pilates education—one that honors classical foundations while integrating contemporary biomechanics and modern teaching standards.
This program is designed to develop instructors who understand the body as a whole, can assess and adapt for the individual in front of them, and teach with precision rather than memorization or choreography.
Now offered as a fully virtual, self-paced certification platform, this training maintains the same depth, rigor, and professional standards as an in-person program—without geographic limitations or rigid schedules.
The goal is not simply to certify instructors, but to elevate the quality of teaching in the Pilates industry.
A COMPREHENSIVE, CONTEMPORARY EDUCATION
Rooted in classical Pilates foundations and informed by contemporary anatomy and biomechanics, The Ground Pilates Teacher Training offers 500+ hours of comprehensive education across Mat, Reformer, and full apparatus.
Students learn to:
Understand anatomy, biomechanics, and movement patterns
Recognize imbalances and compensations in the body
Sequence, modify, and progress exercises intelligently
Balance strength, mobility, and stabilization
Meet each client where they are rather than relying on rigid formulas
The result is a thoughtful, adaptable instructor who can think critically, cue clearly, and teach a wide range of clients safely and confidently.
Designed For:
Aspiring Pilates instructors seeking a flexible, high-quality education
Movement professionals expanding into Pilates
Instructors wanting deeper anatomical understanding and teaching confidence
Students who need a virtual option without sacrificing rigor
Meet the Founder
Jessica Taylor is a seasoned Pilates professional with over 17 years of experience and more than a decade certifying instructors. With a background in dance and choreography, she brings a deep understanding of movement and expression to her teaching. Jessica is also a certified integrative wellness and life coach, and has over 20 years of experience in massage therapy and Reiki/intuitive energy healing.
Her approach to Pilates is deeply personalized, form-driven, and rooted in a strong ability to hold space—allowing clients and students to dive into their unique physical and emotional needs. Known for her skill in injury rehabilitation, many clients have chosen her over traditional physical therapy. Jessica is also certified in Pilates-based personal training, Urban Rebounding, TRX, and more.
She founded The Ground Pilates studio in 2019 and has since shifted her focus to her integrative coaching practice and Pilates certification program. Her certification is available to studios nationwide, either taught directly by Jessica or through instructors trained under her method.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Ground is completely self-paced, with recorded lectures, demonstrations, manuals, study materials, practical hours, and assessments completed on your own schedule. You’ll also have access to a student community and monthly live Q&As with Jessica for questions, discussion, and continued support.
-
There are no set deadlines, so your timeline depends on how consistently you work through the program. Mat students average about 4 months, while Comprehensive students typically complete within a year. Some students have completed the full program in as little as 6 months.
-
Hours vary by training. When you click on a specific tier, you will be guided to a detailed homepage just for the program that will explain your practical hours and more.
-
Students connect with one or more Pilates studios in their area for observation, class attendance, self-practice, and/or practice teaching. You’ll have access to our growing Partner Studio Directory, but you may also contact studios independently. Students are responsible for arranging their hours and maintaining student liability insurance, and The Ground is available to support you if you have difficulty finding a studio.
-
No! Students have entered The Ground with a wide range of experience, ages, and physical backgrounds. The curriculum is designed to build your knowledge progressively while teaching you how to work thoughtfully with many different bodies and abilities.
-
The curriculum was created by Jessica Taylor from nearly two decades of Pilates teaching and more than a decade of training instructors. Jessica continues to teach and oversee the program herself, so students learn directly from the source rather than through layers of teacher trainers. The emphasis is on detailed form, anatomy, biomechanics, individualized teaching, and developing confident, job-ready instructors.
-
The curriculum intentionally teaches concepts through multiple forms of learning. You’ll hear and see material in lectures and demonstrations, read it in your manuals, experience it through classes and self-practice, observe it in real teaching environments, and ultimately teach it yourself. You can revisit recorded material whenever needed and bring questions to the community or monthly live Q&As.
-
Mat students complete a written and practical exam. Students completing the apparatus curriculum also complete an apparatus written exam and two additional practical assessments at designated points in their training. Practical exams are recorded and submitted through your course portal for Jessica’s review.
-
The Ground curriculum has historically met the educational content and hour requirements for students pursuing the National Pilates Certification Exam and was listed in the NPCP directory for years. However, the NPCP has recently been changing its policies regarding virtual education. If becoming an NCPT is important to you, please review the NPCP’s current eligibility requirements directly before enrolling.
The NPCP exam is an additional professional credential rather than your Pilates teacher certification itself. The Ground’s priority is preparing you to teach safely and confidently through comprehensive education, practical experience, mentorship, and feedback.
-
After successfully completing all coursework, required hours, and assessments for your training tier, you’ll receive your certification from The Ground Pilates. Graduates have gone on to teach in boutique studios, gyms, health clubs, recreation centers, home studios, physical therapy settings, and other Pilates and fitness environments.
-
Students purchase two required textbooks: Pilates Anatomy by Rael Isacowitz and Karen Clippinger and The Musculoskeletal Anatomy Coloring Book by Joseph E. Muscolino. You’ll also need student liability insurance. Local studios may charge their normal class, equipment, or rental fees depending on their policies.
-
If you already hold a Mat certification and are interested in apparatus training only, contact us before enrolling so Jessica can review your previous training and discuss the appropriate pathway. Most students decide to experience the mat approach through The Ground lens as well.
-
Tuition is non-refundable after enrollment. Because the program is self-paced, students have flexibility in their completion timeline; however, students who extend significantly beyond a reasonable completion period may need to pay an additional fee to maintain course access.
